a song by Volleyball

There’s a zen metaphor of reality being a river, and that the moment you’re in flows with a wake behind it - which we thought was an incredible image, so we started jamming on that theme when Escape trickled out. We wanted the lyrics to echo that feeling so we wrote a lot about trying to live in the moment and how bizarrely sometimes doing that feels like an escape from the everyday headspace. At the same time we wanted this to be a reminder to step back into reality as sometimes that’s the best thing for you, and if you open your mind too much sometimes your brain falls out.

There’s a quote that says musicians paint pictures onto silence. Music is bound to time, you can’t pause a single moment of it and it has to keep moving for you to experience it. Trying to distil this to a simple concept was the goal of this song, however close we got to that.

don’t say much - or not a thing lay right back - ahh all in this moment just to be - now is all I need breathe in breathe out inner peace

things are looking up all things move forward so don’t get nervous just let yourself breathe
in open space  the sky is only yours and yours to take

cos life’s so short
don’t forget
you’ve got to stop
to see
how far you’ve we’ve been
use your head
before your dead
it’s only ever easy’s
what she said

tune your head out
don’t try hard
time is a river
that flows so far
you are I - are
one and the same
if you hear this
take it in

cause life’s so short
don’t forget
you’ve got to stop
to breathe and take it in
use your head
before your dead
it’s only ever easy’s
what she said
